In Covington

Today I am Covington with my brother Donnie.  We are pretty sure he has advanced cancer.  Right now we ar waiting on the biopsy results.  Things are not looking to good.  In addition to the cancer, he is in the final stages of heart failure.  He is only 15 months older than me.  My Mom is here and we are waiting for the oncologist.  I'll keep you updated.

My First Podcast

Annie Smith visited the shop on Wednesday afternoon.  Annie has been traveling across the United States in order to deliver a car to her son and his wife.  She has stopped and visited quilt shops and quilters along the way.  The podcast we recorded ended up being an hour in length!!  We had a blast.

Annie was quite impre  ssed with our Louisiana quilt.  She wanted to know why I selected the blocks in the quilt and the meaning and history behind those blocks.  I personally do feel that the quilt is beautiful.  It is quite unique.  We still need to add some beadwork and crystals on the quilt then I will post some pictures.

I will publish when the podcast is up on Annie's site www.simplearts.com.

Picture Problems

I am having trouble getting my pictures to post.  I will be working on that problem.  Today I am working from home.  I will be working on  a small wholecloth baby quilt for Mynan's grandbaby that is due anyday.

I hope I can also get some housework done but of course that is no fun!

Our Crawfish Boil

We introduced Tony to crawfish Thursday night when he arrived in Baton Rouge.  He was only about 7 hours delayed due to the American Airlines problems.  Tony learned how to peel the crawfish and how to suck the heads.  This is great Louisiana cuisine.  Check out the pictures of the APQS & The Quilt Corner Road Show Crawfish Boil.

APQS Road Show with Tony O'Tool

Wow!!  We had a great weekend with Tony.  About 50 people came to our Road Show this weekend.  I was so happy with the turn out.  I did not know what to expect.  So many people thanked me for having a Road Show.  A lot of attendees really knew very little about a long arm quilting machine.  Several people who wanted machines was glad to have an opportunity to come to a smaller setting to purchase their machine.  They felt it was better than a big show b/c there was more opportunity for one on one questions and answers.

Superior Threads Seminar

Wow!!! I can't say enough about the three days I spent in St. George Utah at the seminar with Superior Threads.  Bob and Heather, along with their fabulous staff and great teachers, hosted a superb seminar.  Their attention to detail is reflected in presentations and lectures, classes, supply preparation, meal planning, accommodations, shopping and even shipping.  Bob and Heather made this time for me especially memorable.  I made so many new friends!!

Sandra in California

I left Baton Rouge on Thursday January 31st under rainy skies.  Upon arriving in Houston, winds were so bad that there were tornado warnings out at the airport.  Many planes could not land in Houston.  I boarded and had a two hour delay on the runway.

I finally arrived in Sacramento where Rachel, Julia, Natalie and Caden were waiting for me!! Yea!!!

While in California Rachel brought me to visit The Quilter's Inn in Danville.  The Quilter's Inn has been selected as one of the TOP 10 shops for spring 2008 in American Patchwork and Quilting.  The shop is owned by Jane Lewis.

We spent several days quilting and visiting some of Rachel's quilting friends.  Her friend, Helen, lives in Napa and is a wonderful quilter.  She loves Superior Thread just like me.  Her favorite thread is So Fine and so is mine.

We also visited Rachel's friend  Pat.  Pat was in the process of moving her long-arm machine from the garage into the house.  She was freezing in the garage.  At Pat's house I met Laura Lee Fritz.  I was able to purchase several of Laura Lee's book and we all got a mini-lesson on the long-arm.

On Tuesday I finished a quilt for Tara Lynn Darr's quilt.  Tara owns Sew Unique creations, a pattern and quilt design company.  Her Ashley Bag pattern is one of our best sellers.  I also cooked gumbo today.  The family thought it was great and Rachel has plenty to freeze for later.  Natalie and Julia were a great help with cooking.  Natalie made the roux and Julia saute'd the seasoning ans sausage.

Tomorrow I leave for Las Vegas and St. George, Utah.  Although I hate to leave, I am looking forward to bringing home lots of information to share with everyone.

Louisiana Snow December 2008

  • Snow in Louisiana
Rarely do we get snow in Louisiana. We got 6 inches at my house this past December. The last time it snowed was 1988!! Enjoy

Crawfish Boil with Tony O'Tool

  • Concentrating
We introduced Tony to the southern tradition of peeling, eating and sucking the juice from the head of the crawfish. He became an expert by the end of the night.
